During the month of May the firefighters of Port of Seattle Fire Department participated in their annual Live Fire Training. These drills, as required by FAR 139, test their firefighting skills on a mock up of a crashed aircraft, with live fire. Currently, our department completes this specialized training at a facility located at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in Texas. There are limited facilities certified to provide this training for Index E airport firefighters and DFW has been a great partner for this training.
Each firefighter participates in drills involving ARFF Vehicle approaches, hand lines, and rescue. The exercises are done in daylight and at night over a few intense days of training.
