On the morning of September 11, 2023 first responders and guests gathered in front of the Port of Seattle Fire Department for a remembrance ceremony for the events of 9/11. It’s been 22 years, and each year our department takes a moment of silence for the first responders lost. There are current members of the fire department who worked through the tough times and dramatic changes following the terror attacks. There are also current firefighters who have lived with the aftermath their whole lives. The annual event is an opportunity to remember, to discuss the sacrifices made, and the changes to our profession since. It’s a somber reminder to not take a single day for granted and to be grateful for the community in which we all belong.
We would also like to extend our special appreciation to Senator Patty Murray for being in attendance and showing her support.
