Named after Commissioner Pat Davis, the first woman ever elected to the Port commission, the Legacy of Leadership Award recognizes women who, through their exemplary leadership, have stood for values in the face of adversity and advanced possibilities for women at the Port of Seattle. Unlike other Port awards that are presented annually, the Pat Davis Award is awarded only when exceptional recipients arise. Traci Goodwin, who recently retired as Senior Port Counsel, and Manette Moses, who recently retired as Senior Manager of Health and Safety, are the ninth and tenth recipients of the award.
Former Port of Seattle Commissioner Pat Davis was on hand to personally present the award. “Women have been showing up and making a difference for years,” she said, “It’s important to pause and celebrate their important contributions.”
Traci and Manette’s leadership has been instrumental in supporting the Port through many years of growth.
Traci Goodwin’s extensive contributions span a 24 year career. As a member of the Port’s legal team, she has helped deliver some of the largest and most significant projects in recent Port history, including the third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and projects at Terminal 5. In addition, Traci has also served as the Port’s ethics advisor. She helped change communication at the Port by making complicated ethical issues clear and accessible to employees, including the popular "Ethics Question of the Month" feature. The Port would not be the good governance leader it is today without Traci’s guidance and counsel. “In these contentious times, the role of public service is more important than ever,” Traci said.
Over 20 years of service, Manette Moses led the transformation of Port safety culture to significantly eliminate hazards, prevent employee injuries, reduce time lost, and promote employee health and wellbeing. Safety is Manette’s life work. With her kind and caring demeanor, she strove each day to fulfill the Executive Director’s vision that “everyone goes home safely.” Manette responds that “the success of Health and Safety wouldn’t have been possible without good leadership and a great team” and that she is “so proud of what we’ve come to accomplish here” at the Port of Seattle.
Congratulations to Manette Moses and Traci Goodwin on being the most recent recipients of one of the Port’s most prestigious awards. The Port deeply appreciates their demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization and creating significant public value to the region.
