Prior to starting her high school internship, Fela Goerz had an interest in creative pastimes. You might find her planning events with the Burien Youth Council, playing the piano, or taking photos on her Canon Rebel T51. Her main project this summer, as part of the Human Resources Videography Team, is working with three other high school interns to come up with questions, interview the Port’s executive staff, film the interviews, and then edit them. After that process is finished they review the final product with Human Resources. These introductory videos are then shown to new hires during the orientation process. By being a part of this project, she has been able to expand her knowledge about working with professional camera and sound equipment. She has also gotten to practice video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro. “I’ve always heard being an artist doesn’t make money,” Says Fela. And while this internship is focusing on a more professional angle, she is glad to be telling someone’s story while working with the art form that she loves, using cameras.
Since freshman year, Fela has been going to Raisbeck Aviation High School. And as a rising junior, she doesn’t have a post high school plan. She wants to go to a four-year college but doesn’t know what she wants to study. She’s taking steps to figure it out through exploring her interests, with the goal of getting a better grasp on who she is and what she wants to do. She’s especially doing this through her internship with the Port of Seattle and involvement in Burien Youth Council. Overall, her life goal is to be happy. She doesn’t want to feel like she’s constantly searching for something better, but rather, find contentment in what she’s doing. And right now, with her internship at the Port, she is content.
