As we gear up for National Volunteer Week (April 16 – 22), we want to celebrate and thank the community of volunteers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). SEA volunteers are invaluable ambassadors for both the airport and the Puget Sound region. On any given day, SEA volunteers in bright green assist hundreds — even thousands — of travelers. Located at key information desks throughout the airport, volunteers focus on elevating the travel experience. Whether providing directions to rideshares, helping travelers find their gates or a restaurant, or making recommendations for what to visit in our region, SEA volunteers are invaluable members of the SEA Customer Service team and airport community.
Beyond staffing information desks, SEA Volunteers also help in other ways.
Supporting the Little Free Libraries
Several volunteers have added "librarian" to their duties. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization with a mission to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. SEA has Little Free Libraries near gate A3 and in front of the Children’s Play Area. Travelers are welcome to give or take a book. Volunteers restock books, ensure libraries are neat and clean, and have even donated books themselves. Check out the libraries next time you fly, and if possible bring a book!
SEA Pups Animal Therapy
SEA has a growing team of furry volunteers who provide animal therapy to travelers in need of pets, cuddles, and hugs. Pups and their human handlers are typically stationed at our Central Terminal, though you may also find them at our North Concourse. Each team is also accompanied by a general SEA volunteer who assists with hand sanitizer distribution and line control. The pups are popular!
Sunflower Lanyard Kit Assembly
Volunteers behind-the-scenes have made thousands of kits, which are then given to travelers upon request at key locations. The Sunflower Lanyard signals to our frontline staff that the wearer has an invisible disability and may need extra help, flexibility, and patience. Each tightly packaged kit includes a Sunflower Lanyard, bookmark explaining the program, and SEA sticker. Packaging the kits is a big job and we are grateful for volunteer support!
As SEA strives to become a 5-star airport, we know our community of volunteers will help us get there. Whether answering questions at an information desk, restocking a Little Free Library, providing needed animal therapy, or making Sunflower Lanyard kits – we thank them for donating their valuable time to help SEA and our travelers. If you have a chance, please say thanks as well. Just look for the bright green uniform and Volunteer nametag.
