Editor’s note: Port of Seattle employee Annae Kim Paynter has special memories of her first visit to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) was the Port of Entry when my Mom, younger Brother, one-year old sister and I emigrated from South Korea to the United States of America in 1966. My Father was already in the United States, establishing our new Home in Yardley, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Our Trans-Pacific journey would take us from Seoul, South Korea to Narita, Japan to Hawaii, arriving at the Port of Seattle’s Entry at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). I’m not sure if it was Trans World Airlines or Pan American but won’t forget the spiral staircase that led up to the Cocktail Lounge on the top of the plane. Pretty cool!
From there our journey would continue on a Continental flight from SEA to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, arriving at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
