Sea-Tac Airport has a special place in my heart and not just because I worked for HMS Host managing airport gift shops back in college. For one thing, whenever I visit the airport I'm usually en route to somewhere fun like New York or London. I also have CLEAR, which allows me to scan my fingertips and skip to the front of the line at security checkpoints. I even have the airport map memorized by heart, making me a valuable travel companion for anyone trying to find the right gate at the airport. If you've visited Sea-Tac Airport recently you've likely noticed the flurry of new restaurants and retailers now on-site to enhance your travel experience. I recently had the chance to go behind-the-scenes at the airport with fellow style blogger Olga Evans of Explore your Bliss to get an update on the expansion and see what they're up to at Sea-Tac.
Here's what's new and coming soon at Sea-Tac Airport:
Spa — Arrive early for your next flight and take advantage of express spa services from Terminal Getaway Spa, including massages and manicures. Located in concourses A and C, 20-minute manicures start at $25.
Vegan Dining — Vegetarians now have several new and delicious dining options at Sea-Tac including Floret, located in Concourse A. Floret sources fresh ingredients from local farms to make everything from butternut squash polenta cakes to savory black bean burgers. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Bambuza Vietnam Kitchen — Serving fresh Vietnamese food, this restaurant founded by a Pacific Northwest native out of Camas, Washington, will open in the expanded North Satellite in February. The menu includes pho, spring rolls, yellow coconut curry, and green papaya salad. Bambuza also has locations in Portland, Oregon.
Caffe D'arte — This locally owned coffee roasting company is a Pacific Northwest favorite and will be opening a location in Sea-Tac Airport's expanded North Satellite in early 2019.
Evergreen Salads — My favorite local salad chain is coming to Sea-Tac early next year. They'll be located in the airport's Central Terminal serving up fresh, healthy salads, wraps, and grain bowls.
Poke to the Max — Originally started as a Seattle food truck, Poke to the Max is coming to Concourse D at Sea-Tac in March. Menu highlights include Hawaiian favorites like kalua pork plate lunches, spam musubi, and of course, poke. I grew up on Kaua'i and I LOVE Hawaiian food. I can't wait to dine here next spring and support local owner Max Heigh and Chef Sam Choy, both are Seattle-born small businesses.
Concourse D Expanded — A two-story annex has been added to concourse D to help accommodate additional traffic coming through Sea-Tac. The expansion includes a Starbucks coffee shop and will allow the airport to shuttle passengers to and from planes that don't have an assigned gate at the terminal building. Learn more
North Satellite Expansion — The expansion now underway in Sea-Tac's North Satellite will double the dining and retail space in the terminal and add eight new gates. Travelers will also get to experience a new rooftop-level Alaska Airlines lounge. The project completion date is 2021. Learn more
International Arrivals Facility — The new arrivals facility scheduled to be complete in 2020 will increase the number of international-capable gates at Sea-Tac from 12 to 20, allowing for a more efficient arrival experience. The new facility will include a grand hall for baggage claim, customs processing, and an 85-foot high aerial walkway that will connect passages from the South Satellite to the grand hall. Learn more
Central Terminal — The renovation will debut a modern design that includes 10,000 additional square feet of retail and restaurants. The plan includes family-friendly seating, charging stations, and mezzanine-level dining. The renovation is scheduled to be complete in the 4th quarter of 2019. Learn more
The VIP holiday event at Sea-Tac for influencers and bloggers also included light bites from featured restaurants, spa services by Terminal Getaway Spa, beauty tutorials by MAC cosmetics, gift ideas by Seattle Chocolate and Chalo, plus gift wrap and bow tutorials by USO Northwest, and private tours of the airport.
