Officer Joshua Maiuri has earned the Port of Seattle Police Department’s Officer of the Year award for 2014. The nine-year veteran of the department was recognized for his outstanding service to the community, including his courageous actions in saving the life of a distraught individual and withstanding an assault while separating two individuals during a domestic dispute.
Over his tenure at the port, Maiuri has responded to 11,107 calls, filed 821 case reports and interviewed 879 contacts in the field. The Tacoma native has been active on the Bike Team and Civil Disturbance Unit.
“Officer Maiuri’s devotion to duty and commitment to leadership, integrity and accountability personify the values of port police and have earned the respect of the members of the department,” said Port of Seattle Police Chief Colleen Wilson.
Whether he is conducting a traffic stop, contacting a suspicious individual or performing a routine patrol, Wilson said Maiuri can be counted on to respond tirelessly with professionalism, diligence, reliability and determination.
Maiuri honed his critical thinking and analytical skills at Pacific Lutheran University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in psychology. He lives in Graham with his wife, Michelle, and three-year-old daughter. His love of baseball translates into participation in the Annual Fallen Officer Softball Memorial Tournament, a charity event.
A private award recognition ceremony is scheduled for Friday, March 7.
