SEATTLE – Tracking and stopping potential terrorism threats takes a team of skilled professionals across local and federal agencies. At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Port of Seattle Police Detective Josh Landers has led by example, doing what it takes to keep airline passengers and airport workers safe and that has earned him the 2016 Officer of the Year award.

Det. Landers is the Task Force Officer for Seattle’s FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), an inter-agency effort that investigates threats to airlines, rail lines and seaport operations.

“Josh has insured that all affected parties are aware of potential threats and in all instances, he is critical to investigating and mitigating the threats,” said Port of Seattle Police Chief Colleen Wilson. “He is an integral part of the inter-agency team charged with keeping the Puget Sound region safe from terrorism. Simply put, he’s our go-to guy when it comes to high profile emergency situations and always exemplifies our core values of Leadership, Accountability and Integrity.”

Det. Landers began in law enforcement in 1997 as a Reserve Deputy with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and joined the Port of Seattle Police in 1999. He has had numerous assignments during that time including six years spent on the Dive Unit. Det. Landers earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Seattle University.

“It is a team effort to keep our Port facilities safe and secure for the thousands of people who use them each day,” Det. Landers said. “The JTTF is rewarding and I am humbled to receive this honor, since both law enforcement and civilians all play a part in stopping terrorism.”
