Sandra Kilroy has been hired as the Port of Seattle’s new Senior Director of Environment, Sustainability, and Engineering. Since 2018, Kilroy was the Port of Seattle’s Director, Maritime Environment and Sustainability, where she provided strategic direction and policy guidance to a team responsible for maritime and economic development environmental issues.
“It is exciting to having Sandra assume these leadership responsibilities and look forward to guiding us to reach our goal of being the greenest port in North America,” said Steve Metruck, Port of Seattle Executive Director.
Kilroy was most recently involved with the shepherding of the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy, a groundbreaking agreement between the Ports of Seattle, Tacoma, and Vancouver Fraser Port Authority BC, which commits the three ports to go carbon neutral by 2050.
Prior to coming to the Port, Kilroy was the Assistant Director at King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division where she managed the organizational health of the largest wastewater utility in the Pacific Northwest. Kilroy has over 30 years of experience in the environmental industry and served on several boards including the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure, the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, and the Coalition for Clean Water.
Kilroy will be leading a broad team already known for its transformational leadership in the fields of the Environment, Sustainability, and Engineering. The Port of Seattle has made strong commitments on decarbonization, waste reduction, improving quality of life, and restoring habitat, and is looking forward to her leadership in bringing these efforts to even greater heights in work across the organization.
Kilroy holds a Master of Marine Affairs from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science, State University of NY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. She starts her new position immediately.
