SEATTLE – The Port of Seattle is announcing the next series of community informational open houses around the Puget Sound region to discuss the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP), the long-term blueprint for future development of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The open houses will provide opportunities for the public to learn about the growth forecast for the airport and potential options being evaluated to accommodate that growth.
“We are keeping people updated with our current work on the airport master plan and value the input we receive from across the region,” said Port of Seattle Commissioner Courtney Gregoire. “No final decisions are being made, but the public interaction is an important part of the process.”
The Puget Sound region is in a period of rapid growth and Sea-Tac Airport is reflecting that growth with passenger numbers setting a record for the fifth straight year. Passenger traffic in 2015 nearly doubled its growth from the previous year, rising nearly 13 percent to more than 42 million passengers. Sea-Tac continues to be the fastest growing Top 20 airport in the U.S. The master plan forecast projects the passenger total will increase to 66 million by 2034.
The SAMP aims to meet the needs of the airport’s customers by forecasting future demand and the projects required to meet that demand, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Focus areas include airfield enhancements within the current three-runway configuration, terminal development and potential expansion, roadway improvements and cargo facility modernization.
The public is invited to join airport staff and consultants to review and discuss the Sustainable Airport Master Plan at the following three open houses:
- March 16 – Port of Seattle Headquarters, Pier 69, 2711 Alaskan Way, Seattle, 5 – 7 p.m.
- March 21 – Crossroads Community Center, 16000 NE 10th St., Bellevue, 5 – 7 p.m.
- March 24 – SeaTac City Hall, 4800 S. 188th St., SeaTac, 5 – 7 p.m.
