Daily Flights Bound for Bavaria on Lufthansa’s Direct Flight to Munich

This is SEA’s third new international service to take flight in 2024, with more to follow
May 31, 2024

Lufthansa’s new nonstop flight from Munich, Germany, touches down today at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), kicking off new service to the Bavarian capital. This continues SEA’s streak of new international services announced and starting in 2024. Currently, a total of seven new services are expected to begin in 2024, compared to three in 2023 and four in 2022.

Munich is a leading European center for business and culture, as well as a major global connecting hub. Lufthansa announced the nonstop route in September 2023, making it SEA’s second nonstop German destination after existing service to Frankfurt on both Lufthansa and Condor. Munich will offer even greater connections to Europe and beyond. To recognize this important step in connecting our two cities, especially the opportunity it presents for our local economy, SEA and Lufthansa held a ribbon cutting and celebratory event at the arrival gate.

“For years, companies in the Pacific Northwest have been doing business and making connections in Munich,” said Port of Seattle Commission President Hamdi Mohamed. “This new flight brings us that much closer to driving our innovation economy forward. The Commission values a diverse and dynamic Port to ensure economic resiliency for our region. In that way and others, we share a lot of similarities with Munich, especially as a hub for tech and research. We’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors and business connections through this shared gateway.”

Beyond business

Known for beer and historical architecture, Munich is considered Germany’s lifestyle capital. Munich hosts several major European and international events throughout the year, including Oktoberfest, the largest public festival in the world, and the annual Christmas Market held in the famous Marienplatz (St. Mary’s Square).

Adventure and leisure travelers alike will find something that speaks to them in Munich. Whether it’s taking in a football match at Allianz Arena or seeking out your favorite stall in the city’s largest food market, Viktualienmarkt, there’s plenty to do before venturing outside the city to explore Bavaria’s postcard-perfect castles and towns.
