It’s our birthday, but YOU got the gift!
On Wednesday, July 25, the Port of Seattle partnered with Sound Transit to host a birthday celebration at the Sea-Tac Airport Link light rail station.
To celebrate 69 years of serving passengers, the Port and Sound Transit handed out 500 free Link light rail tickets to encourage the use of public transportation to and from Sea-Tac Airport.
The celebration featured special appearances by local sports mascots including Blitz from the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Storm’s Doppler, Cool Bird from the Seattle Thunderbirds, and Sound Transit mascot Zap Gridlock.
During the event, both agencies provided travel tips in a Facebook Live video that included airport public transportation alternatives and Link light rail ridership do’s and don’ts. See more photos of birthday participants.
This is part of the Port’s efforts to encourage fliers to “hack your summer travel” this summer with tips and tools for navigating Sea-Tac Airport. Summer is the busiest time of the year for the airport and the airport drives are frequently congested. The Port recommends travelers use Link light rail to avoid the busy drives altogether or have your ride pick you up or drop you off at a nearby light rail station like Angle Lake or Tukwila.
While Sea-Tac Airport was officially dedicated on July 9, 1949, the Port of Seattle celebrated its special day all month long on social media with the hashtag #HappyBdaySEA.
