Working in Aviation Public Affairs, Ronnie got out in the field (and on the tarmac) gathering footage for social media videos at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
Ronnie Estoque is a return interning who started his first Port of Seattle internship the previous summer. “I was an intern last year for the ICT (Information Communications Technology) department. Working at the Port of Seattle was a great time, so I decided to apply again this year.”
This time, Ronnie applied for a different position that aligned more with his career interests. “I wanted to do something related to media. I had experience at school writing articles and taking photographs. I contacted my manager from last year’s internship and asked if there was a position available. I already had a job working part-time, but I was looking for more experience in the field of my interest.”
Ronnie ended up working for the Public Affairs department at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. During the summer, he got to learn more about filmography and use new camera equipment. At the new International Arrivals Facility groundbreaking, Ronnie got to film the significant event alongside members of the local press.
“The internship has helped me gain real-world experience in reporting. I didn’t want to be stuck indoors all day, and this internship allowed me to go out in the field for footage. I appreciate that a lot.”
Ronnie is a brilliant student who received a full-ride scholarship to Gonzaga University. He plans to double major in political science and communications. “I love journalism and politics. I want to share stories of marginalized and under represented communities. There are a lot of stories out there that need to be shared.”
The internship program also offers networking opportunities. Ronnie also got to meet Julie Collins, Sr. Director of Public Affairs. “She also double majored in journalism and politics. It was great hearing her advice on how to find a successful career path.”
